The Importance of At-Home Care Following a Surgery
One of the most important aspects of surgical care for your pet happens after the surgery itself: aftercare. With proper aftercare, your pet can be back on all fours sooner rather than later. Aftercare is important to ensuring that your pet’s surgery is successful.
Once your pet comes out from under anesthesia and is ready to go home, one of our veterinary professionals will provide aftercare instructions for your pet. It will include a list of acceptable activities, activities to avoid, and other tips and tricks to help your pet heal safely and comfortably.
It is important that you follow the aftercare instructions carefully. We will let you know when your pet can resume eating and drinking normally. Certain activities, such as running or jumping, may be prohibited as your pet heals. We recommend that you give your pet a safe, quiet spot indoors where they can recuperate. Keep an eye on your pet’s surgical site as well; if you see any signs of infection such as swelling or redness, give us a call right away.
Do you have questions about your pet’s recent surgery? Do not hesitate to give our team a call at (804) 589-5394 or contact us online today.

Dr. Parker was amazing: kind, reassuring, and informative. As it turned out, Rocky had a cough which was a relief. Because of our experience this morning we have decided to switch vets.-Lois M.
